3 ways scientists use technology to track and deliver information about the osprey
Although the population has recovered, scientists still monitor the ospreys to make sure that the populations don't decrease again.
Ways in which we track the ospreys:
- Direct observation of nest activity via a remote live camera (requires "eyes" available to observe, but a great way to see daily activity of bird)
- Banding the baby ospreys in the nest (requires re-capturing of banded bird to track data) Click here for Maryland Data
- Deploying cell tower based tracking devices which are attached to a harness that the scientist fit onto the osprey - Data is connected to Google Earth Images and allows for detailed tracking of animal (costly, but most effective on tracking migration) Click here to view the movement of the osprey that have transmitters
